Vague Feedback Response

What to say when feedback lacks specifics. Ask for clarity without sounding defensive.

Script
I appreciate that feedback. Can you help me understand what 'more strategic' looks like in practice? Are there specific examples where I could have approached something differently, or key behaviors I should focus on developing?
Follow-Up
Going forward, what does success in this area look like? How will we measure progress, and when can we check in to discuss how I'm tracking?
Template 4

Compensation Opener

Transition from performance to pay without awkwardness or aggression.

Script
Given the results I've delivered this year, specifically [X metric] and [Y project], I'd like to discuss how my compensation reflects this impact. Based on my research and market benchmarks for this role, I believe an adjustment to $[range] would align with my contributions.
If They Say "Not Right Now"
I understand. Can we schedule a follow-up in [30/60/90 days] to revisit this? In the meantime, what specific outcomes would position me for that conversation?
Template 5

Post-Review Email

The message most people never send. Documents the conversation and sets accountability.
