Do you need to wear makeup to succeed and stand out at work?
As a woman who believes in the power of confidence over cosmetics, I’ve always held the view that makeup should never be a requirement to stand out, especially in the workplace. We are all stunning in our natural skin, and it’s important to remember that makeup should enhance your beauty, not define it. That said, the majority of days I’m not wearing a lick of makeup to the office. I just can’t be bothered. But I’m not sure, maybe that could change one day. Do you have a business casual makeup look for work?
As for now, when I want to do a business casual makeup look I tend to reach for it for a presentation or conference. My go-to business casual makeup look is a makeup no-makeup look—lightweight, natural, and effortlessly polished.
My business casual makeup look is perfect for work because it provides just enough coverage to even out your skin tone while still letting your natural beauty shine through girl! Here’s how I achieve it, along with some of my favorite products that work beautifully on brown skin.
1. Skin Prep: The Foundation of a Flawless Look
I always start with a clean, moisturized face. One product I recently tried, and is now an everyday grab is the IT Cosmetics SPF Lotion. It’s lightweight, hydrates the skin, and feels so smooth, with a bonus for sun protection—a must for anyone who spends their days in and out of offices with varying light exposure.
2. Lightweight Coverage with a Natural Finish
For that natural, barely-there look, I swear by the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. I’ve worn it for years! After having tried other tinted moisturizers, this is still my go to! It’s perfect for evening out my skin tone without feeling heavy. I’ve also found that it doesn’t smear everywhere which is very important to me. The finish is so natural that it looks like I’m not wearing makeup at all—just healthy radiant skin.
On days when I need a little extra coverage, I reach for the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. It’s great for brightening up the under-eye area and covering any blemishes. It looks so so smooth! I love it! The formula blends seamlessly into the skin, so you won’t have to worry about it looking cakey or settling into fine lines.
3. Subtle Definition for Brows and Lashes
Eyebrows are everything for a business casual makeup look. I should have put this at the top. A lot of times if I don’t wear any other makeup, a brow and gloss could be all I need. Brows frame the face, and a little definition goes a long way. I use the NYX Eyebrow Pencil for this. It’s affordable, easy to use, and comes in shades that work well with brown skin tones. I like to fill in my brows with light, feathery strokes to keep them looking natural.
For my lashes, the YSL Mascara is a game-changer. It lengthens and volumizes without clumping, giving my lashes just enough lift to make my eyes pop without being too dramatic for the workplace.
4. A Natural Flush and Glossy Lips
As for lips, I’m all about keeping it simple and hydrated. The Summer Fridays Lip Gloss is perfect for this. It adds a hint of color and a glossy finish without being sticky, and it keeps my lips feeling moisturized throughout the day.
5. Lock It All In
I absolutely despise when I wear white and my makeup gets everywhere. Well this could be perfect for you to make sure your makeup lasts all day. I finish with a few spritzes of MAC Setting Spray. This setting spray is a staple in my routine because it helps to lock everything in place while giving my skin a natural, dewy finish.
Makeup should be a choice, not a necessity. Whether you prefer a bold look or something more understated like this go-to business casual makeup no-makeup look, the most important thing is that you feel confident and comfortable in your skin. For me, these products help me achieve a polished, professional appearance without compromising on the natural beauty that I believe we should all embrace.
