Experiencing unwanted attention to your hair at work is often an unspoken issue. This discomfort and awkwardness when someone violates your personal space frequently get swept under the rug. It’s unclear if people aim to stay politically correct or if they believe that saying nothing will alleviate the discomfort. However, remaining silent can sometimes invite the behavior to persist.

“Your natural hair is professional.”

In 2017, as I embarked on my professional career and sought comfort in my natural hair journey, I realized the need for a supportive space for other professionals with natural hair. At that time, such a space seemed non-existent, prompting me to create one. This marked the beginning of my journey to embrace the natural texture of my hair in all professional settings.

Throughout this journey, I reached a point where I refused to conform to society’s “standard of beauty” to make others comfortable. My goal was to help create a lane of beauty that was “uncommon” in professional environments. I aimed to shape the narrative around natural hair in the workplace and address uncomfortable situations, clarifying what behaviors are acceptable and not acceptable in the office.

Fueled by this passion, I sought to bring awareness and change to how natural hair is perceived and treated in professional settings. By fostering open conversations and advocating for respectful behavior, I hope to pave the way for others to confidently embrace their natural hair at work.
