What to wear to a job interview as a Black professional woman
The best job interview outfit is one notch more formal than the role's everyday dress code. For most corporate, finance, legal and consulting interviews, that means business professional: a tailored blazer, a simple shell or blouse, and a trouser or midi skirt in navy, charcoal or black.
For business casual or creative companies, keep the blazer and soften the rest—a knit top, a midi dress or a wide-leg trouser. For virtual interviews, focus on the neckline and color near your face, because that's all the panel sees.
Your natural hair is professional. Choose a style that will hold from your commute through the final question—a twist-out, bun, braids or silk press—then pick the neckline that frames it. Comfort matters: if you can sit, walk and gesture without adjusting anything, you can focus on your answers.
